Neptune's Only Daughter

KINDA POST ROCK FROM BOULDER!

It is no secret Boulder doesn't have a lot going for it in terms of a music scene that isn't jam, bluegrass, or EDM. I look elsewhere but this band made an impression and we were pleased. The songs are their own and they take themselves seriously...which isn't always a bad thing.

Set List:

The Abstract Collective

Unfortunately this post has no visual of the band...I considered throwing up some vibraphones as they are what caught my attention to this Colorado Hip-Hop group...

The Abstract Collective blends multiple sounds and influences together quite well and put on a good show with inspiring lyrics and vibes, pun intended. Listen below, the song about a rabbit hole gets rill trippy and this band totally brings it.

THE ABSTRACT COLLECTIVE PLAYS AND TALKS

er, ok why not...

Esmé Patterson

Esmé Patterson is an effing star.  I was legitimately nervous when she came through the station to perform. One of Colorado's Paper Birds, Esmé recently released her debut solo LP,  All Princes, I produced by Roger Green and full of some of Denver's best players. "Folk and Roll" is a decent way to describe the record but it is much more than that and I seriously cannot stop listening.

All Princes, I is in another league and Esmé's voice! Ahhh this kind of voice doesn't come around often.

Check out the album on American Songwriter  and listen to her Local Shakedown performance and interview below. ESME PATTERSON IS ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE BESTS

Set List:
Ron Miles - Just Married
ScaTTer GaTHer - The Devil Returns

We Are Not A Glum Lot

This 4 piece fronted by vocalist/guitarist Sam Erickson is from Colorado Springs and we thank them for making the trip to the station. Some element of their performance gave me chills (which doesn't happen too terribly often). Perhaps it is because this group is pretty young (half are seniors in high school and the other half, college freshman) and have a successful future of music making ahead of them. Or maybe it was the grandiose violin lines against hard riffs and mathy guitar licks that felt like some kind of different, anti-pop. With multiple influences that make for unexpected appearances in their song writing, this is a band to keep an eye on as they mature and come into their own.

We Are Not A Glum Lot opens for Sea Wolf at the Black Sheep in Colorado Spring January 24th.

Set List:

Velventeen Monster - Velventeen Monster
Attic Attack - The Silver Lining
Eye and the Arrow - Prophet's Home Town
